Why Messy Play
It’s so much fun and …
“ In order to grow and learn, the human brain needs to be stimulated by sensory experiences that take place within a rich and varied environment…a child needs to see, touch, hear, taste and smell, to play, explore and experiment…” Vea Vecchi (1998) Reggio Children
Messy play is a sensory activity. Sensory play is provided with interesting objects and activities in which to explore the sense of touch, smell, hearing and sight.
Messy play is important for young children, giving them endless ways to develop and learn, and is crucial for early learning and children’s development. Messy play helps children to; improve physical skills and
co-ordination, work co-operatively and together, use all their senses to discover and explore their environment, and develop their imagination, creative thinking and ability to problem solve.
Today’s children are bombarded with plastic toys that are often computerised and automated. Playing with toys alone can limit opportunities to develop imagination, creativity and critical thinking. Messy play is infinite; open ended and more importantly, ‘child-centered’. Children will discover enormous numbers of opportunities for learning and play, through
timeless and accessible messy play activities.
Come along to a Squiggles N Giggles session and find out for yourself how you and your child can learn so much by having so much FUN!
